While I'm not a fan of the term "hustle," the truth is, securing clients online and authentically building an audience demands effort โ a lot of it.
It's not a walk in the park.
It's simple, but far from easy.
In this tiny course, I'll simplify the process for you. But, let's face it, many will read and do nothing because, well, it's tough.
But here's the good news: finding clients can be simplified, and we're about to break it down.
Getting traffic to your landing page, having people reach out about working with you, building a subscriber list, and enticing people to buy โ these are the universal challenges in business.
You might think it's about technology, funnels, or something else, but the core challenge is finding customers.
Now, let's cut to the chase on how to overcome this:
Rule #1: Get in front of other people's audiences.
Rule #2: Make yourself known.
There are two methods to follow these rules: Paid advertising and "free" organic strategies. Both demand time, but the organic method is my go-to for beginners.
My approach involves gaining traction organically and then using paid advertising to fuel further growth. Instead of overwhelming you with all the strategies, let's dive into my marketing playbook.
When I first entered the online business world, my Facebook account had a sole purpose: business. My profile, though sharing personal tidbits, is primarily a business tool.
Here's a breakdown of my Facebook profile funnel:
Profile Banner: Clear statement on who I serve and a call-to-action. A post with a link in the comments.
Profile Bio: Short and sweet. One link to my YouTube channel and another to my primary lead generation landing page.
Note: The landing page offers a 1:1 trouble shoot consultation โ a valuable lead magnet that often leads to recurring income through affiliate marketing.
A landing page is where visitors land on your site. Mine is larger than usual because my lead magnet is unique โ I offer my time for a 1:1 trouble shoot consultation. This approach fast-tracks the path to converting leads into paying customers.
Quick Disclaimer: Starting with a simpler call-to-action like "DM to chat" works when you're building an online presence.
The Organic Approach: Getting in Front of Audiences
For me, joining relevant Facebook groups is key. The strategy involves being strategic, ethical, and honestโnever "poaching" but adding value unconditionally.
Help Unconditionally: Join groups where your ideal customers are. Respond with genuine effort to provide answers and suggestions within your expertise.
Add Value Unconditionally: Invest time and effort in crafting detailed responses. Space out your paragraphs for visibility and engagement.
Copywriting Matters: Treat every comment as a mini-sales copy. Craft your responses strategically.
Bonus Tip: Create a group-specific Facebook banner for added engagement.
Terrible Ways to Find Customers

Hereโs another style of cold outreach that is simply spammy.
This is what happens to me.
Someone sends me a friend request.
I donโt know who they are or Iโm not sure.
I always send them a message saying this:
โHey [first name] Thanks for the friend request! How do we know each other? Are we part of the same FB group?โ
Sometimes they reply something like โI am from XYZ group, I saw you post and it was helpful and I wanted to connect.โ
Great! These are the type of responses that indicate they are a potential customer or collaborator. Someone who is genuinely interested in working with me in some capacity.
I accept the friend request and begin the conversation.
Ask relevant questions and chat with them.
What is their business?
Howโs business going?
Do they have a website?
Can they send me their social media so I can have a look at what they do?
Is there anything they need help with?
Things like that.
Now, what about the spammer?
Here are some typical replies I get to the above-mentioned questions:
Spammer alert #1
Hi Laura, howโre you doing? Yes I think we are in the same group. I am just connecting with people in the same space
They didnโt say what group.
No reason why they are connecting with ME. Just โconnectingโ. Spam. Ignore.
Spammer alert #2
Just connecting with like minded individuals.
Please, Give me a break.
Your not just connecting. Spam. Ignore.
These messages lack personalization and can harm your brand. Instead, focus on genuine connection and value.
In Conclusion
(0) Optimize your Facebook banner and profile with a clear statement of who you are, who you serve, and how you do it. Include 1 call-to-action. Give them a really good reason to connect with you.
(1) Find Facebook groups in your niche, or Facebook groups that your ideal customer hangs out.
(2) Join the group and add value unconditionally until people come to YOU.
(3) Rinse and repeat.
