When I started my blog, I had only 4 subscribers (and one of them was my mother). I couldn't imagine how I would reach 1,000, let alone 10,000 or 100,000 subscribers. But guess what? It's not impossible! I made the mistake of not prioritizing list building early on, and it cost me sales and pride. Luckily, I learned my lesson and developed a system for list building.
Over the past 10 years, we've added over 140k subscribers to our list! Although we've cleaned it up and currently have around 50,000 subscribers, it has been an incredible journey. Our email list has been the foundation of our business, enabling us to sell millions of dollars worth of courses and services. So, if you're starting from scratch, don't lose hope! I've documented the process and learned from my mistakes so you can avoid them.

By approaching list building as a business system rather than a one-off strategy.

Here are the 5 steps to build your email list:
Step 1: Create a Fabulous Website or Blog
One of the best ways to attract visitors and build relationships with them is through content creation. Start a blog, launch a podcast, or create a video show. Make sure to publish or embed your content on your website to drive traffic and encourage sign-ups. Step 2: Create Opt-In Incentives (Lead Magnets)
Lead magnets are essential for building your email list quickly and effectively. Identify your ideal client's pain points and create lead magnets that address those challenges. Validate your lead magnet ideas by talking to existing clients or prospects. Place opt-in opportunities strategically on your website to capture leads. Step 3: Use SEO to Drive Organic Traffic
Optimize your content for search engines to increase visibility and attract more visitors. Research keywords related to your content using tools like UberSuggest. Incorporate these keywords into your headline, subheadline, body, images, and meta description. Don't forget to share your content on Pinterest and optimize it with keywords there too. Step 4: Use Smart Traffic Tactics
To supercharge your list-building efforts, leverage free traffic sources. Consider hosting a no-pitch webinar, pitching yourself as a guest on relevant podcasts or blogs, optimizing your social profiles, starting a podcast or YouTube channel, hustling on Pinterest, and actively participating in Facebook and LinkedIn groups. Create an exposure plan to implement these strategies effectively. Step 5: Create Consistent Content
Consistency is key when it comes to building your email list. Show up week after week to serve your audience with valuable content. Plan your content in advance using a content calendar and stay committed to your schedule. Consistency will yield long-term results and build trust with your audience.
